The Horses of Free Rein
Horses Helping Humans Heal
Macho
Pumpkin
Macho, 22 is a black Paso Fino
gelding, easily a premier therapeutic
riding horse who meets each student
where she or he is and responds
empathically.  A mellow, gentle fellow
with a smooth "corto" gait.
Pumpkin, 14, Hafflinger gelding, came
to Free Rein from an Amish community
in the northeast, originally a driving
pony.  Free Rein's friendliest horse,
has a nicker for everyone!  Built like a
little tank.  Really fun to work with.
Patience, 18, dark bay appendix
Quarterhorse mare, originally a
favorite at Camp Keystone, the one
horse that lots of folks in Brevard
already know!  A great teaching horse,
very sweet and shy.
Cody
Cody, 20, sorrel Quarterhorse mare,
praised highly for her work as a
therapy horse in previous settings,
Cody likes people, loves attention,
gives a smooth ride, and does her best
to please.
Robbie
Ms. Pumpkin
Mrs. Pumpkin (L) and
Pumpkin (R)
Raider
Free Rein has leased three new horses for our fall and spring sessions.  Robbie, a 23 year old bay
Thoroughbred gelding, has been leased from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian College.  He might look big and
intimidating at first, but don’t be fooled!  Robbie is a big teddy bear who loves to work with young children.

We also have two new horses from Camp High Rocks in Cedar Mtn.  Raider is a 20 year old paint Quarter Horse
gelding.  He’s very gentle and quiet, and loves his new home at Free Rein.  We also have a 22 year old gray
Connemara mare from High Rocks named Pumpkin.  Since we already had a horse named Pumpkin, we decided
that they should be called Mr. and Mrs. Pumpkin.  They liked each other right away and are now almost
inseparable, so the names fit!  Like Raider, Mrs. Pumpkin is very calm and quiet.  One of her favorite things is to
be groomed by Free Rein students and volunteers.

These three new horses are joining our veteran team of Mr. Pumpkin and Cody, who have both been with Free
Rein for many years now.  The Free Rein instructors are looking forward to introducing our students and
volunteers to our new four-legged team members this fall!
